sr Emma Vas

 “I am the way, the truth and the life” Jn 14:6

Having complete trust in the Word of God and walking in the footprints of the Risen Lord, Sr Emma bid farewell to the worldly life on 8^th May 2023 at 2.30 pm.

Sr Emma hails from a devout family belongs to Christ the King Church, Moodbidre.  She was born on 30^th May 1937 to late Mr Jacob Raymond Vas and late Remed Miranda as fifth child among nine children.  Her baptismal name was Emilia Vas. After completing her primary schooling at Siddakatte and Alangar parish schools, high school education at Jain School Moodbidre and TCH at Government College Balmata. Sr Emma responded willingly and joyfully to inner call to the religious life and joined Ursuline Franciscan Congregation on 01.06.1965. She made her first profession on 21.05.1968 at Holy Rosary Convent Jeppu and offered completely herself to the divine master on 11.05.1973. She was professionally a teacher and served as proficient Head mistress at different places like Paneer, Kelarai, Shirthady, Fajir, Belthangady, Loretto, and Thottam Schools.  Her keen interest towards pastoral work was praise worthy and always she worked to instill love of God in the hearts of children at Sunday Catechesis and strengthened their faith to walk in just ways. She served as an animator at Kelarai, Fajir and Belthangady with love and selflessness. She lived the religious life joyfully and optimistically in all the communities with a cheerful face. Her appreciating nature, encouraging, strengthening and motivating spirit is always filled with hope and cordial relationship with one another beautified her person in the community.

Sr Emma was person full of wisdom and knowledge.  She put in writing all her deep insights and inspirations in the form of short story, essay, poem, etc. ‘Punar Milan’ – a book collection of many stories is commendable. She spent her retirement life at St Ursula’s Convent Bolar, preparing children for the first Communion and explaining to those tiny minds the love of Jesus and making known the identity of Christ. She has also taken keen interest to take catechesis to couples and taught them the importance of the Sacrament of Marriage.

She was transferred to Somarpann Novitiate Community due to her old age and she spent happily her life in Prayer apostolate being an exemplary sister to the novices and sisters of the community.  Sr Emma used to spend her quality time always to the Lord in prayer and affable relationship with her family members through phone.

She was hospitalized at the end of April as her health deteriorated and was discharged after few days when her health conditions showed the improvement. Sisters of the community attended and encouraged her to be strong when she felt sick. It was Monday 8^th May 2023, Sr Emma said yes to the will of God to enjoy the eternal bliss in heaven.

Dear Sr Emma, It’s hard to believe that you are no more living with us. Still, we humbly bow before the will of God and pray eternal rest to your soul. Intercede for us all and your loving family and send forth God’s blessings from above. Adieu Sr Emma until we meet you face to face in the heavenly abode.

Eternal rest grant unto her o Lord and let your perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace Amen.
