A two-day seminar on Legal Aid was organized for the Sisters of the North Province on 30th September and 1st October 2025, with the objective of creating awareness and empowering the participants in matters related to law and justice. A total of 45 Sisters participated in this enriching and insightful programme.

As the Sisters are actively engaged in the fields of education, social service, and healthcare, it was essential to equip them with a sound understanding of legal frameworks relevant to their ministries. The seminar aimed to enhance their capacity to respond effectively to legal challenges and to advocate for the rights of the marginalized. The sessions were facilitated by two eminent resource persons Sr Asha Paul CHF and Fr Denis S.J.
Sr Asha Paul CHF is a practicing lawyer and a registered member of the Bar Association of the Delhi High Court. She currently serves as the Secretary of the CBCI Council for Women, based in Delhi. Fr Denis S.J. is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and serves as the Protection Officer for Minors and Vulnerable Adults in all institutions run by the Delhi Jesuits. He also coordinates the Legal Aid and Human Rights Initiative (LAHRI).

The Indian Constitution: Fundamental Rights and Duties
The role of law in religious and social life
Legal procedures: FIR, Arrest, and Bail
Child Rights, Cyber Safety, and Land Laws
Laws related to POCSO, RTE (Right to Education), and Human Trafficking
The sessions were highly informative, engaging, and thought-provoking, enabling the participants to become more legally informed and socially responsible citizens. The seminar successfully underscored the vital role of legal literacy in promoting justice, safeguarding human dignity, and empowering those who serve the most vulnerable in society.
