A significant milestone in the history of our Congregation has been marked with the establishment of a new community at Kloster Franziskus in Erftstadt, in the Diocese of Köln, the birthplace of our founder, Fr. Urban Stein, SJ. Rooted in Gospel values and dedicated to compassionate service, this new convent answers the growing call for committed healthcare ministry. It also stands as an extension mission of the European Region, strengthening our presence and outreach in this meaningful and historically significant location.
This blessed initiative has been made possible through the collaborative vision of our Regional Superior, Sr Leena Rodrigues, and her Council, the unwavering support of our well-wishers, and the wholehearted commitment of our Sisters. We extend our deepest gratitude to our Superior General and her Council, whose steadfast support, guidance, and encouragement have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life in the mission of the European Region.
In The Holy Eucharist celebrated at 5.00 PM by Fr. Wilhelm Hösen, the retired priest of the parish, and concelebrated by Fr. Peter Kippels, the Parish Priest and Dean of Erft-Kreis. We gave thanks to the Almighty for His abundant blessings, the successful establishment of the Sisters' residence, and the noble mission entrusted to us in service. At the conclusion of the Eucharistic celebration, Fr. Peter Kippels blessed the house.
In a symbolic and heartfelt gesture, the Tabernacle key was handed over by the Regional Superior Sr Leena Rodrigues to Sr Precilla Pereira, the Animator of the community and the Decree of the Canonical Erection was read before the gathered assembly. This special occasion was graced by the presence of Dr. Rips, President of the working institute Marien Hospital, and her secretary, Mrs. Susanne Kirfel. A good number of Sisters of the Region were also present, whose joyful presence added joy and warmth to the celebration.
We joyfully welcomed Sr Precilla Pereira, the Animator, and Sr Divya Lopez, Sr Reena Miranda, and Sr Cathrine T. Jungmai — the pioneers of this newly established community. In a simple yet heartfelt gesture of appreciation and joy, each Sister was greeted and honoured with a rose before the gathering.
Sr. Leena Rodrigues expressed heartfelt words of gratitude, especially to the Superior General and her team, the celebrants of the Eucharist, the honored guests, and the Sisters of the Region. Special thanks were also extended to Sr. Cicilia Geeta and the Sisters of Marien Convent, whose dedicated efforts were instrumental in ensuring a dignified, joyful, and grace-filled opening of the new house.
