The Ursuline Franciscan Sisters of African Region had their 5th Regional chapter from 26th to 29th June 2024, with the theme ‘Repair My House in a Synodal Way’ at Assisi Regional House, Tanzania, East Africa for which 28 delegates were present. It commenced with 5 days retreat prior to the chapter preached by Fr Patrick Congregation of the Passion of Christ, with which the capitulars were oriented well for the chapter.
The Ursuline Franciscan Sisters of African Region had their 5th Regional chapter from 26th to 29th June 2024, with the theme ‘Repair My House in a Synodal Way’ at Assisi Regional House, Tanzania, East Africa for which 28 delegates were present. It commenced with 5 days retreat prior to the chapter preached by Fr Patrick Congregation of the Passion of Christ, with which the capitulars were oriented well for the chapter.
During these grace-filled and spirit-led days the 5th Chapter Delegates reflected and discussed the present burning issues and concerns of the world, church, congregation, community and self. The major internal and external challenges discussed, evaluated and considered were self-absorption, the concerns of the ‘new poor’ the increase of violence, crimes and other practices which are not in line with the Holy Catholic Church teachings. Having realized the call to holiness, with a sense of synodality of participation, communion and mission, they pledged themselves to repair, renew and rebuild self, community, Church and the world in a Synodal way.
In this 5th Regional chapter on the 29th of June 2024, V. Rev. Sr Milly Fernandes the Superior General who was the President of the chapter along with V. Rev. Sr Lydia Serrao the councilor General appointed Sr Leena Mathias as the Regional Superior and Sr Mary Pautu, Sr Consolatha Thairora, Sr Alice Pinto Serrao and Sr Nirmala Rodrigues as the Regional councilors for a period of three years to take the Region to greater heights in terms of its spirituality, community life and mission of Christ in the light of the word of God and the spirit of the Founding members.
