43 Delegates of the XIII General Chapter of the Ursuline Franciscan Congregation gathered at Somarpann Generalate, Derlakatte, Mangalore, India from 30.04.2016 to 17.05.2016.
They reflected on the theme: Ursuline Franciscan Sisters Taking a Stand, Making a Difference with the Mind and Heart of Christ. Rev. Fr Freddie D’Silva SJ guided, prepared the Delegates with the half days session and later Rev. Fr Jossy Lobo SJ guided them through a directed retreat on the theme: Being a joyful prophetic witness today.
The reflections, discussions and deliberations of the Chapter centered round the present scenario of the World and the Religious life, the reality of violation of human dignity, violence to cosmos, and a lack of sense of the divine. In the light of this reflection and realizing our call to be prophets to wake up the world and bring fullness of life to people they came out with Statement and Policies with definite Mandates that will help the Congregation to take a stand, to re-instill the sense of the divine in persons, restore human dignity, promote justice and peace, preserve ecological balance and make a difference in our relationship with God, self, others and cosmos.
On the 14th May 2016 in the elections held Rev. Sr Susheela Sequeira was elected Superior General and Sisters Milly Fernandes, Lilly Pinto, Juliana Pinto and Lydia Serrao as Councillors General. The Sisters of the Congregation and the Formees prayed showers of blessings upon them as they took up the responsibility of leading the Congregation in the light of the Gospel.
The curtains were closed on the Chapter after the Delegates had thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration in the Foundation room at Bolar.
What thanks can we render thee, for all the gifts you showered on us Lord: these are our innermost prayers and gratuitous feelings towards our Trinitarian God, who led us so beautifully and gracefully throughout this Chapter.
