The Ursuline Franciscan Sisters ventured into the soil of SAME, Diocese in Tanzania in June 2004. This is a bold step that opened a new leaf, rather a new chapter in the history of the Congregation. The people of the diocese are poor, but simple and peace loving. Faith formation, quality education and self-sufficiency are the areas the Sisters have immediately under taken.

Nine Sisters are rendering their service in three places. Assisi house in the Bishop’s village, SAME is a formation house presently forming 5 candidates of Kenya. The candidates accompany the Sisters to teach catechism in Cathedral parish and in the neighbouring parishes too.

The Sisters at St Angela’s Convent, Kindoroko take care of the education of students of I to IV form (Secondary School). It is a residential school accommodating 280 students. Excellence in education and character formation are given priority. The diocese of SAME handed over the school with all its assets to the Ursuline Franciscan Management with full trust that Sisters would change the face of the school and mould the character of the pupil.

ssisi Convent, Stelling is the Mission House, which was inaugurated and blessed on 28th July 2005. Here the Sisters attend to the formation of young girls in character faith leadership along with academic studies. The girls attend Folk Development College in SAME, Kindoroko Secondary School or some other job oriented courses. In a rented house close to the mission house a course of one-year duration is given to train the students (girls) in English, Science and Maths known as ‘preform course’ after which they are sent to the regular secondary school. This training includes leadership training, value education and faith formation. Twenty girls are trained every year at this centre.

Kindergarten English Medium is started at Stelling. In the coming years this will grow into a primary school giving access to the children of SAME for quality education.

Padre Pio Children’s Home is at its completion stage to house the orphans from January 2006. Children who have lost their parents due to HIV/AIDS and those who are destitute will find a home here.

Sisters at Stelling extend their service in pastoral apostolate in Makanya Parish, teaching English in Folk Development College, teaching catechism in Government Secondary School, under the support and encouragement of Bishop Jacob Koda, the Bishop of SAME. The Sisters hope to continue the good work they have started to establish God’s Kingdom in the hearts of the people.
