Ursuline Franciscan Sisters from India landed in the Diocese of SAME, Tanzania, in Kilimanjaro region, to preach the Good News inorder to spread the message of the Kingdom.
The children from the neighbourhood flocked around the Sisters to learn English. Evening coaching classes paved the way to pray in families, catechize children and the youth of the Cathedral Parish. The little ones saw Jesus in the Sisters and their faces spoke volumes.
Thousands of uneducated youth was their another concern. In Tanzania Secondary Education is a previledge of the few. As a result Non-school going teenagers loiter on streets or lie at home aimlessly. Cultivation is difficult since ’SAME’ is a Semidesert area. Assisi Training Centre run by the Sisters for adult women serves as a boon to prepare a few to continue their studies andothers to be leaders in society. ’The harvest os great’ say the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters ’but the labourers are few’.
