The Ursuline Franciscan Congregation opens its portals to the Catholic men and women of goodwill to collaborate in fulfilling its mission, as entrusted by its Founder and pioneering members. Drawing on its rich history, the congregation established the Ursuline Franciscan Lay Association (UFLA) in 1887, originally founded as the Association of St. Ursula by Fr. Urban Stein SJ. This initiative aimed to involve lay faithful in both Church-related activities and secular missions, allowing them to share in the life, ministry, charism, and spirituality of the Congregation.

This event of the establishment of UFLA is imprinted in golden letters in the annals of the Congregation. The members dedicated themselves to proclaim the Good News through their life and mission with the motto "All for the Love of God." On the occasion of the Post Centenary Silver Jubilee, the first Handbook of UFLA was released.
In 2012, four UFLA units were established in Mysore Province. These units are located in Koppa, Chennai, Hunsur, and PG Palya. This expansion marked a significant step in the growth of the UFLA Units, enabling greater outreach and support for members in these regions. Each Unit serves as a vital hub for fostering faith, community engagement, and service initiatives, contributing to the overall mission of UFLA in the province.
On October 21, 2017, the Sisters of the Mysore Province and the Ursuline Franciscan Lay Association (UFLA) gathered to celebrate Founders Day, honouring the pioneering spirit of their founders. The day began with a prayer service led by the Balehonnur UFLA Unit, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by esteemed dignitaries, including V. Rev. Sr. Susheela Sequeira, the Superior General. Rev. Fr. Ronald Cardoza delivered an inspiring talk on the theme "Preethi Kutumbada Moola Swasthya Samajada Adipaya," highlighting the importance of strong family values. This was followed by a Thanksgiving Holy Eucharistic celebration. In the afternoon, various UFLA Units presented entertaining and inspiring programmes, creating a vibrant celebration of community and faith.
On October 9, 2022, the Decennial Celebration of the UFLA of Mysore Province took place at the St. Joseph's CBSE School auditorium in Hunsur. Under the theme "Greatest Good in Shortest Time," this event marked a significant milestone for the UFLA, commemorating a decade of dedicated service and faith. The celebration brought together 305 participants, including 117 Sisters and 188 UFLA members from various Units. A highlight of the morning was the Thanksgiving Eucharist, presided over by Rev. Fr. Prem Kumar Montfort. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing blessing and grace, was conducted by Rev. Sr. Lily Fernandes, the Provincial Superior; Rev. Sr. Lydia Serrao, General Councillor; Rev. Fr. Prem Kumar; Rev. Sr. Annie M.A., UFLA Coordinator for Mysore Province; and two UFLA members.
Eighteen UFLA members made their Permanent Affiliation during the event and special recognition was given to Decennial UFLA members and esteemed guests. And Rev. Fr Edward Saldanha was the resource person. He emphasized UFLA’s significant contribution to the local Church. In the afternoon, a variety of cultural programs highlighted the diverse talents within the UFLA Units, featuring vibrant performances of prayer songs, dances, mime shows, and skits. We concluded our celebration with the Congregation Anthem. In 2026 we have 19 UFLA Units with Permanent affiliated members 159 and 86 Temporarily affiliated members.
